Reaching for the stars from earthly base
One might succeed or fall flat on one's face.
Taking three drawings which I thought
my best,
I assayed them with aqua-regia test,
Moulded them with purpose and ambition,
Aspiring to the loftiest tradition -
Of Titian, Poussin, Seurat and the like.
So who is this wishful chap called Mike,
Who let his slight imagination run
On limestone, sycamores and dappled sun,
Taking rope enough to hang himself
- and plenty,
(As he was hung by the cognoscenti!)
