MICHAEL ATTEWELL

The Fishmonger

Back to front and roles reversed

Faint memories of when I saw them first -

It's Masaccio's story of Peter no longer,

But a farmer's wife and a fish monger.

From boyhood days my memory lacked,

Not in the painting but in matter of fact.

To discover the fault you will have to be clever,

Or you could go on searching the painting for ever,

Which is just the way I would like it viewed.

There can't be an ill wind that blows no-one good.
