Taken in adultery,
she was to be stoned in shame.
They gave no thought to mercy
or to treating men the same.
Jesus put a stop to it.
His psychology was grand.
'He that is without sin . . .'
He said - while writing in the sand -
Each thought 'This man's a prophet
and all my deeds are known' -
Continuing, Jesus challenged them,
'let him first cast a stone.'
The would-be stoners crept away.
Christ and mercy had won the day.
Allying truth and beauty
is a way to put my case.
So the men are odd and twisted -
the shape of their disgrace.
Elsewhere I've given reasons
why I hide my name away.
Here it's on the rolling stones
(Unusually quiet today.)
